Why counselling?

Have you had enough of struggling through life? Not wanting to burden loved ones with your problems? If so then maybe its time to talk to someone who can help.

Anxiety

Anxiety can be most debilitating to those who experience it. The severity of the anxiety is usually disproportionate to the actual threat. The heightened awareness of an impending event can seem terrifying. Common symptoms include - feeling out of control, avoidance of situations, disturbed sleep, rapid breathing, agitation and panic attacks.

Depression

If you feel that you have lost interest or struggle to find enjoyment in life then you may be suffering from depression. Depression can be triggered by an unfortunate event or can creep up over time without you realising what is happening. It is characterized by feelings of hopelessness, meaningless, sadness and apathy. It can affect self- esteem and cause you to withdraw from the world.

Loss and bereavement

The loss of a family member or close friend can be devastating. Having to adjust to life without the deceased can seem enormous and over-whelming. These feelings can also be experienced with the loss of a spouse through divorce, the breakdown of a relationship, loss of a job or of good health. At times we can become stuck within this loss and need help to address our problems to enable us to move on.

Anger management

Anger is a natural response for us all. It can be triggered through frustration, feelings of being misunderstood, being treated unfairly or feeling attacked. Anger can be motivating but becomes a problem when we consider that it is getting out of  control. Learning to understand the triggers and why this is happening can help us to regain a healthy balance.

About counselling

All of us, at times, can find life a bit tough. Whether it is events that we are struggling with in the here and now or past issues that still are still holding us back.

Historically, society has led us to believe that a 'stiff upper lip' approach is the best way to deal with any such problems. Luckily attitudes are changing and whilst widely reported that mental health issues are on the rise, also recognised is the importance of dealing with it, not ignoring it.

Having the space to talk through your problems confidentially with an understanding, non-judgmental and empathic professional can prove invaluable.
Whether you are struggling with - anxiety, depression, loss, grief, anger, abuse, low self esteem, relationship problems, OCD, PTSD, work issues or find that you are just  feeling stuck in life and need help to decide which road to take.

Integrative counselling is a combined approach to psychotherapy that brings together different elements of specific therapies.
With this approach I am able to tailor the sessions to facilitate the client with a bespoke blend of person centred, cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic therapies.

Before setting up in private practice I volunteer for a charity where I counselled adults and students. I have over 20 years experience of working with children and previously counselled within a main stream school.

I am also qualified in counselling couples with relationship difficulties, whether it be within a romantic partnership, family or friend dynamic.

I am a registered member of the BACP and you can find me listed on their website as well as Psychology Today and The Counselling Directory. For the importance of confidentiality of all documentation I am registered with Data Protection.
